It has an extension of 220 km, it ranges from Punta Castilla, at the mouth of the San Juan river, to the Sixaola river. It has a tropical rainy climate that leaves the coast under the influence of the northeast trade winds. The equatorial current of the Gulf of Mexico passes through this coast, which allows coral formations to abound, which does not occur on the Pacific coast.
